Innisfree Eco Peel-off Base Coat Review+KB Shimmer Midsummer's Night

Hello! Today I have a special review for you. Some of you might be aware of the new Essence Ready for Boarding Peel-off Base Coat. I was intrigued by the idea of a peel off base coat, (since I often peel off my polish anyway, haha) and supposedly this base coat didn't damage your nails when you peeled. However, I was totally unable to find the Essence base coat anywhere, even online :( But I did find an alternative! As some of you know, I have an interest in Japan and Korea, and that definitely extends to Japanese and Korean cosmetics. So when I discovered the Korean brand Innisfree had their own Eco Peel-off Base Coat I was eager to give it a try!

First of all (I wouldn't want to start a post with naked nails, which is a necessity for this review alas -- be warned) the pretty polish I used to test my new base coat out is KB Shimmer Midsummer's Night, which is a lovely purple jelly with heaps of blue and white hexes in medium and tiny sizes, as well as an abundance of white star glitters. I love this polish! This is not only my favorite kind of warm purple, but star glitters are always a winner in my book. This applied pretty well, and the stars were not hard to get out (careful placement was not really necessary). It was pretty glossy and not too rough either -- overall, a perfect polish in my book!

On my nails:
1 coat Innisfree Eco Peel-off Base Coat
3 coats KB Shimmer Midsummer's Night
1 coat Seche Vite

And now for the base coat! It was pretty gloopy in nature, but that was to be expected (it is basically just glue), and it applied totally easily. It goes on thick and white and then after about 5 or so minutes it dries clear. I did find after a few trials that the thicker the coat of base coat the easier it is to peel off in one go.

apologies for nekkid nails! this is just after applying base
It's best to wait until the base coat is dry before applying your polish. Then just do your top coat and such, nothing new about that :)

When it's time to take it off, it can be tough to get it started at first. You have to pick at it a little bit to get a good edge to pull on. I tried both from the base (near the cuticle) and on the sides, and both worked about the same. Once you get a good flap, it is mostly pretty easy to carefully pull it off in one go -- some bits might be extra stuck though, and require extra picking. I think like I said before, this is where a thicker coat of base might help. When I was done it did seem that my nails had some damage, but they were quite damaged before (I really do peel off more than I should, that's why I was so excited to try this) so I think it was partly residual damage. In the interest of an informative review, I am going to show my nails after peeling, pre-cleanup -- shield your eyes if naked nails make you squeamish!

eek! how ugly!
peely peelings
As you can see, it didn't peel off totally all the way. However, while my middle nail especially looks worn, they look in vastly better shape than they usually do after I peel everything off! So I do think that if you treat your nails well otherwise, and use a thicker coat of this peel-off base (to prevent needing to pick at the polish to get it off) using this base coat won't damage your nails! Which is just great for those heavy glitterbombs -- you know, the ones that take upwards of an hour to clean off... -shudder- The thing about these base coats, though, is that they really are just regular old craft glue, like the type you used in elementary school. So, if you have empty bottles lying around and want to fill them up with some glue, that will work just as well. But there's nothing wrong with wanting this cute little bottle either :)

  1. Your natural nails are pretty, nothing to be sorry for : D

I love your manicure, my kbshimmer nail mail cannot get here quickly enough.

Ohhhh man. I peeled mine recently, from base to tip, and horror, the nail began to peel off DEEP near an edge. Freaked me out. Not doing it any more.

I put acetone soaked cotton over the nail and leave it for around five min, then take a shower to get all the glitter off! LOL There are ways.... : )

  5. I like the idea, but am worried about ripping out parts of my nail...I remember loving the kids nail polish when I was little, it's almost as fun to peel it off as it is to wear it lol
